About the event

When attending a pack walk for dogs, it's essential to establish ground rules to ensure safety, harmony, and enjoyable experiences for all participants.

  1. Leash Policy: All dogs must be kept on a 3'-6'leash throughout the entire walk to maintain control and prevent unwanted interactions with other dogs or people.
  2. Proper Equipment: Ensure each dog has a well-fitted collar or harness and a sturdy leash. Retractable leashes are not allowed.
  3. Pack Formation: Determine the order of the dogs during the walk based on their personalities and compatibility. Typically, calmer or more submissive dogs should lead, while more energetic or dominant dogs should follow.
  4. Respect Personal Space: Encourage owners to keep their dogs at a safe distance from each other to prevent any tension or conflicts. Dogs should not be allowed to invade the personal space of other dogs or people without permission.  If you have a nervous or shy dog add a yellow ribbon to their collar or leash so everyone knows to give them space.
  5. Cleanup Responsibility: Owners are responsible for cleaning up after their dogs. Bring waste bags and dispose of them properly to keep the walking route clean and hygienic.
  6. Stay Alert and Aware: Owners should remain attentive to their dogs' behavior and body language throughout the walk. Be prepared to intervene if any signs of stress, aggression, or discomfort arise.
  7. Hydration and Rest Breaks: Bring water for both the dogs and owners, especially on longer walks or during hot weather. We will allow dogs to take short breaks for water and rest as needed.
  8. Positive Reinforcement: Encourage positive behavior among the dogs with treats, praise, and rewards. Reinforce good behavior to foster a cooperative and enjoyable pack dynamic.
  9. Know Your Dogs: Understand each dog's temperament, triggers, and limitations before participating in a pack walk. This knowledge helps prevent potential conflicts and ensures a safer experience for everyone involved.
  10. Emergency Preparedness: Be prepared for unexpected situations such as medical emergencies or aggressive encounters. Have a plan in place and carry necessary supplies like a small first aid kit and contact information for local veterinary services.

By implementing these ground rules, you can facilitate a successful and enjoyable pack walk for both dogs and owners while promoting safety, socialization, and positive behavior.
